The Lake – The Old Crone Mysteries by Lorraine Pickles

The Lake – The Old Crone Mysteries is the story of Keridwen, Goddess of death, re-birth and transformation, who decides to take a gap year to experience what it means to be human. She arrives in Glastonbury, takes a young lover, and decides she will spend her time trying to solve murders. But things don’t quite work out as planned- a recent murder at a local psychiatric hospital reveals its sinister past, and Keridwen finds herself losing her powers just when she learns her life may be in danger. Using the structure of a crime novel- with Inspector Joe Perryman and Sergeant Bridges as investigating officers – we are transported in’ The Lake’ into the world of the unseen, sometimes with hilarious consequences.

The Lake is the first book in the series The Old Crone Mysteries from author Lorraine Pickle.  Lorraine is a Priestess of Avalon and a member of the Glastonbury Goddess Temple. She is also a One Spirit Interfaith Minister.  The idea of writing a series of Goddess crime novels came to her on a retreat in Iona with Kathy Jones.

Always having enjoyed reading crime novels, Lorraine wanted to use the structure of a crime novel to introduce people to Goddess spirituality – as well as creating a good read for those in and outside of the Goddess Community.  ‘I enjoy using humour as a way of tackling difficult issues.   I have worked for many years as a social worker, so as well as being about Goddess spirituality,  the book also looks at social issues such as peoples’ attitudes to ageing and mental illness.’

Lorraine also writes and performs poetry , and her CD of seasonal poems ‘The Soul Catchers’ is also available in the Temple shop.  She is currently busy writing Book Two of the Old Crone Mysteries ‘The Island’ so watch this space!
